SAM
About
SaM is a quartet of experienced performers with an extensive repertoire including, cool jazz, swing, rag-time, romance and standards, together with old rock ‘n’ Roll songs.
Their music covers the years 1900 to 1980. They can be up-beat or in the background and they know how to run a wedding and how to perform a concert.
They can handle a 4 hour dinner dance, a 2 hour performance in a theatre, Christmas shows, funerals and festivals and they love fund raising events.
Sam's difference is their harmonies in arrangements of your favourite songs. The group appeal more to an older audience – baby boomers their parents and their children.
Sonya Doyle (soprano) and Marian Landers (alto) - (Sonya and Marian – SaM) are backed by Dennis Harris on keyboard and John Gunn on drums with both music and vocal harmony. Sonya and Marian are well known in choirs and as cantors in the north of Sydney. Dennis and John have played all over the world and together since 1978.
Over the ten years SaM has been together, they have performed at major corporate functions at Jupiter’s Casino, The national Art Gallery in Melbourne, old Parliament House, and at hotels and function venues in Sydney and Brisbane. In recent years SAM have preferred jazz festivals, fairs and markets, and have had two very successful seasons at the Adelaide Fringe Festival.
The group carry Public Liability insurance at $20 million and they provide their own equipment – instruments and sound – suitable for a venue up to 200 people – and they need only one power point or a generator. SAM have their own outdoor canopy (but cannot perform in wind or rain for safety reasons).
